The combined (13) groups of the Leeds Music and Movement Program give over 80 public performances a year.
Pride of the Green Wave Marching Band
"It's Friday Night, the Lights Are On and the Pride of the Green Wave Is In the House". The Pride has a history of performance excellence that dates back to 1957 that includes hundreds of Best in Class, 1st place, and Championship Awards. In the past ten years the LHS band has been Bands of America Class A Regional runners up, USBands Southern States Group 2A Champions, Hoover Invitational Class 2 & 3A Champions, and Class 3A Champions at the Sparks in the Park at Spain Park High School. They have performed in the Governor's Innaugural Parade. The Pride has been featured on local, regional, and national telecasts too many times to count.
Leeds Symphonic Band
The LHS Symphonic Band performs classic and contemporary literature from top composers. They are active in Alabama Bandmasters District IV and recieve adjudication on the state level. They have recieved numerous awards and consistantly recieve Superior ratings on stage and in sight reading. The Symphonic Band performs regularly in concert in our state of the art auditorium, community concerts and events, as well as in contests and festivals throughout the Southeast. They have most recently competed in Festival Disney, Music USA, and The Southern Star Music Festival where they won the Sweepstakes Trophy. They perform music from a diverse array of genres from grades 4 - 6. Grade 6 is considered professional level.
Green Wave Jazz
Green Wave Jazz is a full size jazz band that performs jazz and popular music from almost every era of American Music. They have been featured in numerous live and televised community and regional performances. GWJ has recieved numerous awards and honors. They have competed in Festival Disney, Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame Festival, and The Southern Star Music Festival. They have recieved all Superior Ratings since 2008. Green Wave Jazz keeps a large repertoire worked up year round ranging from grades 3 - 6.
The Green O'Dears of Leeds High School are one of the elite dancelines in the Southeast. They are an auditioned group with decades of tradition and performance excellence. They have been featured at numerous local and regional events including movie premiers and college basketball half-time performances. The Greenies have been champions on the field with countless best in class awards as well as superior ratings and champions on the stage with numerous awards and championships won against top dance teams from some of the southeast's preeminent dance studios.
The Majorettes of Leeds High School have a long and storied tradition. For several years they were the scholastic champions at the Heart of Dixie clinic and championship. After a short hiatus they have returned with a renewed vigor. They have recieved best in class and superior ratings. This is an auditioned group. The majorettes are also choir and symphonic band members.
Emerald Guard and Winter Guard
The Emerald Guard is an auditioned visual group that is included in the Pride of the Green Wave. They have a reputation for performance excellence as well as competitive superiority. They have received numerous best in class awards as well as superior ratings. The winter guard program of LHS is a two time bronze medalist in the Southeast Color Guard Circuit. They have won their class in numerous local and regional contests. The Emerald Guard is auditioned and includes members from many demographics from the student body.
The Emerald Voices
The Emerald Voices are one of the largest music ensembles in East Birmingham. They perform mostly
A Cappella but their scope encompasses a wide range of styles. They perform in concerts and festivals throughout the Southeast. They have been featured in local and regional media outlets. Their membership is unique in that it includes all marching band students as well as students who are in choir class. The Emerald Voices consistently receive Superior Ratings. They are active in the Alabama Vocal Association and have competed in The Southern Star Music Festival numerous times receiving Gold ratings.
The Chamber Singers
The LHS Chamber Singers are an auditioned group. They perform A Cappella literature that includes works written for the University and professional level. From Traditional Jazz to Modern Classical the Chamber Singers have a wide range of styles in their repertoire. They have received all superior ratings since their formation in 2011 including a perfect score at the Alabama Vocal Association festival in Huntsville, AL in 2015. Audiences and adjudicators alike are amazed at their vocal maturity and accuracy. They are not only active in AVA but have a string of all Gold ratings at the Southern Star Music Festival and the Panama City Music Festival. They have been featured on radio and television broadcasts throughout the state. The Chamber Singers are in demand for performances at local and regional events.
Our percussion program includes the Pride of the Green Wave drumline, Green Wave Percussion Indoor Drumline, LHS Percussion Ensemble, and the Concert Percussion Ensemble. The drumline has a history of superior ratings and numerous best in class awards. The LHS Percussion Ensemble competed in the SCGC Non-movement class and won the Alabama championship as well as a Platinum rating and Southeast championship. All of our percussion ensembles are active in community performances as well as concert appearances. Green Wave percussion is active in the Scholastic A classification in the South East Color Guard Circuit.
The Indoor Winds program is part of a relatively new marching arts activity in America. They compete in the SCGC Indoor Winds Scholastic classification. This ensemble is not auditioned but usually includes only high school students. They have competed in the SCGC Finals in Nashville
The Pep Band performs at select sporting events including basketball games. They are known to write their own musical arrangements and really put on a show. Having fun and supporting Green Wave Sports is their calling card. This is a volunteer group.
